The Eagon's are of Irish descent, having migrated to America in the early 1700's and settled in Maryland, around Cecil Co. On the Tenmile and in Guernsey Co, OH. There were two branches of this family who settled near each other on the Tenmile*, James Eagon being an original patentee of a tract of land of 300 acres warranted to him on Sept 11, 1784, titled 'Stone Cole'. On Feb. 19, 1787, he secured a patent for a tract under the title of "Eagon's Farm", which was located at the mouth of Coal Lick. James was a signer of the Petition for a new state to be known as Westsylvania. His will was probated Nov. 23, 1821 in which he named the four children born to them.
