Eagon Family Tree
information in purple was on internet
The Eagon's are of Irish descent, having migrated to America in the early
1700's and settled in Maryland, around Cecil Co. On the Tenmile and in Guernsey
Co, OH. There were two branches of this family who settled near each other on
the Tenmile*, James Eagon being an original patentee of a tract of land of 300
acres warranted to him on Sept 11, 1784, titled 'Stone Cole'. On Feb. 19, 1787,
he secured a patent for a tract under the title of "Eagon's Farm", which was
located at the mouth of Coal Lick. James was a signer of the Petition for a new
state to be known as Westsylvania. His will was probated Nov. 23, 1821 in which
he named the four children born to them.

James Eagon came to Greene Co. (then Washington Co.), Pa., from Maryland
around 1780. He served in the First Battalion, Washington County Militia under
Captain James Archer, in the Revolutionary War. He owned a large amount of land
in Jefferson Twp. and was one of the original purchasers of land in Waynesburg.
In 1806, James Eagon, as one of the trustees of the Methodist Church, aided in
the purchase of land on which to build the first Methodist Church in Waynesburg.
The building that was erected is gone but the Church cemetery remains. James and
Mary resided in Jefferson Twp. and Mary must have preceded James in death, as
her name does not appear in his Will. James died there in 1821. [Fraelich
reproduces his will on p. 95.] A house and lot on were on High Street,
Waynesburg, PA.
