Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shade, midgets, are at their home in New Haven, Ind., Mr. Shade being bedfast with paralysis.  He was stricken with paralysis more than two years ago when they were with Howe's Great London Shows and he has not been out of bed since.  They have been with the Ringling Bros. and other large circuses.  Billboard; 20 Oct 1923; p82

Shade, Frank D., 72, famous circus midget, died July 12 at his home in New Haven, Ind. [Allen Co.].  The deceased had spent nearly half of his life traveling with the largest circuses in the United States.  He was connected with Hoew's London Circus when it traveled thru every state in the union and every province of Canada and Old Mexico.  He was four feet, two inches tall and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Harler, of New Haven, to whom he was married November 5, 1891, was three feet, ten inches in height.  The deceased was a member of the K. of P. Lodge, in Kendallville, Indiana, which had been his home until three years ago, when he went to New Haven to live.  Burial was July 14 in the I.O.O.F. (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) Cemetery, New Haven. (The Billboard; 26 July 1924)

Shade; born ca 1850 in Indiana; traveled & lived with George Gilbert; connected with Mighty Haag Circus; died in Kendallville, IN, in July 1924; dwarf/midget. I have 3 pictures of him: w/2nd wife taken in Boonton, NJ 1898, Wendt Studio; age ca 20 w/1st wife; alone age ca 40
